The Transatlantic Book Project

Martin Waller is a Class 5 (Grade 5) teacher at Holy Trinity Rosehill School in the North East of England. In the spring of 2013, he and I decided to launch a joint book project. His students write about the books they enjoy reading. When they post about their favorite books, they earn a special Book Project Badge. Then I take their book recommendations and post them on my blog. Here are the first three…

  The Twits

by Roald Dahl

reviewed by Katie

The book I like to read is the “Twits”. I like the Twits because it is a funny and you can lose your head in every page that you read! I also like the Twits because of some of the tricks that Mr. and Mrs. Twit play on each other. The Twits is a book I can read over and over again because I enjoy it so much! I like this book because anyone can read it. Every time I read this book it puts a smile on my face .It is also by one of my favorite authors.

My name is Katie and I am 10 years old.

  The Witches

by Roald Dahl

reviewed by Isabel

There are seven characters in this story, Boy, Grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins, Bruno Jenkins, Mr. Stringer and The Grand High Witch.

This book is about REAL WITCHES. No matter what witches, always wear gloves!

REAL WITCHES spend most of their time plotting to get rid of the children in her particular territory.

A REAL WITCH gets the same pleasure from squelching a child as you get from eating a bowlful of ice cream, chocolate sauce, and sprinkles.

A witch never gets caught! Don’t forget she has magic fingers and devilry dancing in her blood. She can make you spit fire out of your mouth.

This fantastic but scary story was written by Roald Dahl who has sadly died.

  The Boy In The Dress

by David Walliams

reviewed by Daisy

I like ‘The Boy In The Dress’ because it is a funny ,interesting book about a boy named Dennis. I love this book because every time I read it I can’t stop reading! Dennis lives in a normal town in a normal house with his older brother called John and his dad. Dennis is the normal kind of boy who loves to play football with his friends, but he also has a secret liking for fashion. Will anybody find out about his love for fashion? Also I really like this book because it is written by David Walliams (my favourite author).
